(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> developing right now -- new information about the primary suspect in the 1984 kidnapping of 10 year old kevin collins. just hours ago -- we obtained a photograph of the man, whose identity was *first uncovered right here on kron 4. >> but first tonight -- developing news out of fairfield at this hour. a young teenaged girl is found murdered in a park. i''m pam moore -- right now. kron 4's charles clifford is live at the scene --- charles what do we know? >> reporter: we found that the teenager was found

deceased earlier this morning. crime scene investigators have been here all morning trying to find out what happened. according to the fairfield police department, around 6:45 friday morning, an officer was performing a security check here near allan witt park, when he was flagged down by someone who reported seeing a possible dead body. >> he responded and said the there was a young white skinned female deceased in a parking lot. >> reporter: he responded over and found a young light skined femle deceased near the parking lot. so far, very little is know about the woman. she's described as being in her teens and investigators are trying to figure out who she is. police are also handling this as a homicide investigation. the victims body was found out in the open and they believe she died recently. csi teams are currently searching a very large area of the park. >> the problem is, with the size of the park we don't know what's involved and what's not involved. so we would rather do to much than not enough. within the park we have some items that are items of interest for us. whether they are related or not we d on't know. we want to make sure we do a we collect everything we can.

>> reporter: at this point there is no suspect, no motive but we are expected to get an update from experts, momentarily. reporting from a fairfield, charles clifford, kron 4. if >> here's exactly where the girl's body was found in fairfield. she was in allan witt park.a large park just east of interstate 80.along west texas street. this is just across the street from an e-ruth sheldon elementary school. here's a closer look. police say the girl was found here near this gazebo. follow developments. right now in a story you"ll only see on four. >> pam: we are learning even more details about the suspect in the 1984 san francisco kidnapping of kevin collins. justine waldman is here now.

with the new information you will only see on kron 4. >> justine? >> reporter: we now have a photograph of dan therrian. who went by the name of "kelly." you are looking at him now. and this is a photo you will only see on kron 4 news. this is his california drivers license picture from march 2003. therrien lived at the home police searched on tuesday looking for clues in kevin collins disappearance. his haight-ashbury home on masonic is across the street from saint agnes - where collins attended basketball practice before vanishing in 1984. one of therrien's former landlords tells us. therrien wore his blond hair shoulder length - similar to description of last person seen talking to collins before he disappeared. we know he worked at a restaurant, as a decorative painter, in construction and liked to sew. therrien died in 2008. cause of death.a heart attack. at 51 years old.

i reached out to his former co-workers and friends today. to find out more about him. when i hear back i will let you know what they have to say about the man police are calling their prime suspect in a 30-year old cold case. >> pam: kron 4 just has obtained new details about this case. from the mother of kevin collins. terisa estacio is standing by with that new information. terisa? >> reporter: i spoke with kevin's mother ann this morning about this newest lead in her son's disappearance back in 1984. i asked her if she had ever seen this man. dan therrien. and what investigators are now telling her about why after so many years they are re-opening her son's case.. ann collins tells kron four news that she recalls inspectors tracking down many leads after kevin vanished. but a few really stood out. and have lasted throughout the years. involved a man matching the description of dan therrian. - the man who kron

four news has learned. is the current target of a san francisco police department cold case unit. looking into kevin's missing persons case. in addition. collins she says credible witnesses at the time told investigators kevin was last seen with a man with a black dog. kron four has confirmed that therrian - who went by the name kelly owned a dog collins says she doen't remember police identifying therrian by name. only that they were focusing on a neighbor who lived by the corner where kevin vanished following his basketball game. that fateful night. as for why now, inspectors are back looking at therrian - digging up the ground at the home he used to live at - so close to where kevin disapparend. collins says she knows but can't say, at least not right now. ann collins says she initially received a call from the new inspector on her son's case earlier this week, she has talked to him again. and is waiting to hear if there is more information that could finally provide some answers in case that has

near police $6,000. and today, she was celebrating eating beignets... celebrating because she is going to go to the game. >> she has the tickets and she is going to go to the big game. it did not look like that last week. she thought that she purchased tickets off of craigslist but just got a bill. >> on monday, when the envelope came and there was nothing in it but a piece of paper and it said enjoy the game i said that our entire world disintegrated. she was a scant $5,900. in a transfer that she thought was legitimate. >> over 200 text messages to would go to such an elaborate scheme. she

the back of the squad car shortly after he surrendered to a police swat team early friday.. a man san jose cops have been hunting every day for two months. here's his picture. he's 30-year-old mitchell pope, wanted in connection with at least three shootings and other crimes, considered armed and extremely dangerous. >> he is a ticking time bomb. he was involving himself with any type of criminal activity. >> reporter: a 2nd un-named suspect was also taken into custody and more arrests are pending as several other people were detained and hand-cuffed as the swat team surrounded this house on lewis avenue, setting off a flash-bang device leading to the suspect's surrender, ending a crime spree that was anything but peaceful. >> we do not necessarily have beneficial 10 most wanted list but he would be on there. he was that

(closing bell) >> pam: a big day on wall street. just hours ago the dow rallied to close above 14- thousand. kron4's catherine heenan is here with the details. >> catherine: a big day is right. this hasn't happened since 2007. now - both the dow and the s&p are close to their all- time highs. the dow closed above 14- thousand for the first time since before the financial crisis rocked the world economy. it's a milestone. although at the new york stock exchange, traders seemed to be taking it in stride. still.the dow hit the mark. thanks in part to a good january jobs report. good car sales. and better consumer confidence and

they also made sure the cases were "not" reported to law enforcement. mahony has been disciplined by his successor -- and stripped of public duties. the church is only releasing the documents because it has to -- it's part of a settlement reached in 2007 with 500 victims of abuse. many of those victims say that considering the generations of children who have been molested and raped -- this is too little -- too late. >> catherine: this was hillary clinton's last day as secretary of state. she told a crowd of foreign workers at the state department to continue to serve their nation. and to understand the challenges facing the u.s. >> i know the of the world that we are trying to bring into the 21st century will have a committee difficult days. but i am more optimistic today than when i stood here for years ago >> catherine: clinton left with a slap at critics of the administration's handling of the attack on a u.s. embassy in libya. she says those critics don't live in an 'evidence-based' world. john kerry now becomes the new secretary of state. >> pam: a little friendly

before he disappeared. we know he worked at a restaurant, as a decorative painter, in construction and liked to sew. therrien died in 2008. cause of death.a heart attack. at 51 years old. kron 4 just has obtained new details about this case. from the mother of kevin collins. newest lead in her son's disappearance back in 1984. i asked her if she had ever seen this man. dan therrien. and what investigators are now telling her about why after so many years they are re-opening her son's case.. ann collins tells kron four news that she recalls inspectors tracking down many leads after kevin vanished. but a few really stood out. and have lasted throughout the years. involved a man matching the description of dan therrian. - the man who kron four news has learned. is the current target of a san francisco police department cold case unit. looking into kevin's
